MedSafety Scan® (MSS), developed by scientists at the Arizona Center for Education and Research on Therapeutics (AZCERT), is a platform for therapeutic decision support that incorporates the QTdrugs database from the CredibleMeds website with reliable drug-drug interaction predictions to identify patients at greatest risk of major adverse drug reactions. MSS is built on expert manual curation of QT-risk and drug-drug interaction data to deliver accurate therapeutic risk assessment without false positives or irrelevant information that can overwhelm prescribers due to alert fatigue.

MSS captures essential data to identify a high risk profile, and then informs prescribers when medications and/or combinations of medicines have the potential to cause prolonged QT interval, torsades de pointes (TdP) arrhythmia and/or sudden cardiac death.  This personalized risk assessment assists prescribers throughout the decision-making process, not just after a prescribing error has been detected.

personilized_scoring.pngPersonalized Risk Scoring

Personalized scoring for risk of prescription medicines.

Using clinical data from the patient’s medical history, the MedSafety Scan® algorithm gathers important clinical characteristics of each patient, assesses the risk of drug-induced harm and provides personalized medical risk assessment and suggests clinical options for monitoring or medication adjustment  based on individual patient data.

As each medical facility will most likely have their own patient demographics and drug use patterns, the system is designed to be customized for use in any clinical environment and the threshold and type of notifications sent to prescribers can be customized on a site-by-site scenario for each institution or clinical unit.

Two configurations are currently available:

1. ICU Patients (Tisdale Score)    (PubMed Reference PMID:  23716032)

2. Non-ICU (MedSafetyScan default score)
